2024 Summer Program

The 2024 Summer Program for returning Varsity and Novice rowers and coxswains starts Wednesday, July 24th and runs until Friday, August 16th.  Practices will be Mon-Fri, 4-6pm (no weekend practices).  The focus of this program will be on improving technique, so we will be doing a lot of drills and technical work, but we’ll also mix in some hard rowing and racing to help keep things fun.

This program is not required, but it’s very much encouraged.  It will be beneficial for all who attend as it’s a chance to really focus on improving and reinforcing good rowing fundamentals.  The Summer Program is also a great way for the 2023-2024 Novices to start making the transition to Varsity.  We’d like you to come to every practice, if possible, but if you need to miss part of the summer program, that’s not a problem.

Athletes who have more than one year of rowing experience can join our Varsity Team. Our varsity rowers build upon their existing skills and take their fitness to the next level. Many of our varsity rowers are recruited to row at the collegiate level.

Our Season: Rowing is a year-round sport. When we cannot go on the water, we do indoor workouts on the rowing machine.

Fall: Held late August through January. Typically consists of several 5,000-meter Head Races, including The Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Beginning in late November, practices move indoors and focus on strength and conditioning.

Spring: Held from February through late May (or June, for those who qualify for Junior Nationals.) The season starts indoors, then moves onto the water when it is warm enough. The season consists of several regattas, including Midwest Championships in May.

Summer: Held for first 3 weeks in August. Both varsity and experienced novice team members are eligible to participate in this optional summer program.
